The problem

Universam is a chain of 7 grocery stores in southern Ukraine: Kryve Ozero, Pervomaisk, Liubashivka and Savran. National chains opened next door in Kryve Ozero, and they greet shoppers with an app, points and personal deals.

The chain needed its own loyalty program that matches competitors feature for feature while fitting a regional business budget and its existing 1C accounting.

The solution

Built to grow

The program runs on points, the model the business was ready for. The system is designed so percentage discounts can be added without reworking it.

Points at checkout

The cashier sees the customer's balance and offers to redeem points right at the till.

Deals without a full catalogue

Instead of thousands of products, the app shows around 50 promoted items that actually bring shoppers into the store. Content can be managed by a non-developer.

Personal offers and push notifications

Segments and campaigns are managed in the loyalty service admin panel.

1C integration

Loyalty tiers are configured in 1C and data is exchanged directly via API. The system correctly handles a single purchase that is split into several receipts across different legal entities after the end-of-day report.

Results

The project is complete: a finished mobile app and a web demo at universam.pohorelov.dev. The regional chain gets a customer-retention tool on par with national players, built around its own processes and accounting rather than a generic platform it would have to adapt to.
